About the retreats
Although Western thinkers, even those who are not social
revolutionaries, have focused on creating social change through legal,
political, and economic systems, contemplatives in every tradition throughout time have taught that a
changed world depends on changing the inner life of individuals. -Mirabai Bush
Personally I can`t think of a better way to change the world than through art, nature and contemplative practices such as yoga.
These workshops are an opportunity to immerse yourself in the daily
practice of yoga and art. Our contemplative practices will integrate
the Yin and yang styles of yoga with various meditation and breathing
techniques to prepare us for our artistic endeavours. There is no need
for experience to participate, just the willingness to experiment and
explore.
The
life of a contemplative and of an artist are very similar in that they
each strive to embody a lifestyle, one that is driven by their passion
for expression and understanding. During our retreat time we will
deepen our understanding of ourselves, utilizing both our creative
expression and inward reflection to sculpt a life moved by meaning.

spring workshop series at Path Yoga, Kingston
yoga from the inside out
Part 1: An Exploration of Moving from our Core Sunday, March 28th 2:00 - 5:00 pm $30 members, $40 non-members ***Pre-register for both workshops and SAVE $10 call 613.328.5856 to register
What does it mean to work our core muscles? How does our practice benefit by moving from our core? And, more importantly, what is our core intention for practice when we step onto the mat, and how can that intention deepen our commitment to practice? In this three hour workshop we will look at the practice of yoga from the inside out by focusing on our intention and observing how our intention translates through us into the outer form, expressed as the postures. Then, by using postural assessments to understand how we move through the practice physically, we will explore how that movement is a reflection of our mental and energetic state of being. By observing the practice from both the inside and out, students will learn how consciousness moves through the body, how the steadiness of the mind impacts the quality of their practice, and how longstanding structural imbalances appear and can be therapeutically corrected through consistent, life long practice. This workshop is suitable for all levels of practitioners and will give ample insight into the structural alignment of the body. It will also be particularly helpful for those who are looking for something to give depth and meaning to their practice, which ultimately leads to a life long commitment to practice.
Part 2: Exploring the Chakra System Sunday, April 25th 2:00 - 5:00 pm $30 members, $40 non-members ***Pre-register for both workshops and SAVE $10 call 613.328.5856 to register
How can understanding the function of the Chakras help with back bends? How can practice be used to understand the energetic health, or balance/imbalance of the Chakras? What does the expression of the Chakras in our yoga practice reveal about us? In this second part of our series exploring the practice of yoga from the inside out, we will use the practice to illuminate our personal relationship to the Chakra system. In this three hour practice, the Chakras system will be revealed to us physically, mentally and emotionally, informing our understanding of the challenges and vulnerabilities we experience as practitioners. Students will learn how to use their practice both to determine the quality of energy moving through the body, and to enhance the optimal flow of energy through the Chakras when they are encumbered. By learning to view the practice from the inside/energetically to the outside/physically, students will be able to adapt their approach and intention to practice accordingly, to allow for the greatest amount of therapeutic benefit. This workshop will give insight to students that seek to understand why it is that certain poses never seem attainable, no matter how hard they work physically. Open to all levels of practitioners, this workshop will also be helpful for students wishing to develop a more grounded, connected feeling of being in their body.

an introduction to Yin and Yang yoga
May, 2nd from 1-4pm
52 Armstrong Street, Ottawa, Ontario, K1Y 2V7 613-761-9642 (YOGA), www.pranashanti.com In the practice of yoga, we use the body to still the mind. Our movements can be fluid and fast, or still and deep, each producing its own benefits, no more or less worthy than the other. Through movement, we gain an appreciation for stillness; in stillness, we become conscious of movement. In this workshop, we will use both the Yin and Yang approaches to understand the difference in each approach, and to learn how and when to use either method to bring about healing in the body, mind and emotions. While all levels of practitioners will enjoy this workshop, you will find it particularly helpful if you wish to deepen your practice by cultivating a mindful approach. By exploring the nature of mind within the practice, you will have the chance to re-affirm your commitment by clarifying your core intention for being on the mat. In other words, you will consider what it is you really want from practicing yoga. The ability to focus on and clarify your intention leads to a life long commitment to practice and helps you to overcome one of the major obstacles to practice that all students encounter.
Cost: $50.00/person
