9 Days of cleansing and counting…

Posted on by Siobhan

For most of us, the photo on the left embodies all that Thanksgiving is. Unless of course you’re a vegetarian or vegan. If so, than you’re probably already well versed in how to deal with one of the biggest food related holidays of the year. For some folks, it’s no big deal. They skip the turkey, gravy, and stuffing that was cooked inside the turkey. For vegans it gets a bit more complicated with the mashed potatoes being done with oil not butter, and the usual vegetables done with cheese sauce are likely served with a nutritional yeast based ‘fake cheese’ sauce.

Vegan desserts are another thing altogether though as often they are better than the real deal and, not as sweet. So this post is to offer some support to those of you that would normally opt for the standard Thanksgiving menu. It’s also for our current group of cleansers that are now on Day 9 of 21 and are being faced with some tough choices this holiday weekend. What I suggest is that they go ahead and give themselves permission to have whatever they want. It’s not going to change all that they’ve accomplished so far, but they will notice how uncomfortable they feel after eating if they dive right in without restraint. I would suggest that you never do the Tofukery thing. Not only is it just gross, it’s overly processed. Better to eat a real bird than a fake one. Just my opinion.

So whether you’re cleansing or you just looking for some healthy inspiration, I hope you’ll find these links to be useful. This is one of my favorite websites. I love everything that I have ever made from Heidi’s book. (* Warning she does like to use cheese and yogurt generously in her recipes, but if you’re vegan, just omit it.) If you skip back a few posts, you’ll find the review of her book that Jenny posted. You can also go here, but I would steer clear of the mains and go with the sides. This also looks good, although I have not made it yet myself. If you have any other favorites that you’d like to share, please do so either on our blog or our Facebook page.
